- Describe urban settings (Outer Journey)
- When you think of urban settings (cities) what do picture them to be? Be specific, and discuss more than just a visual picture; include the people, experiences, etc.-When I picture urban settings I think of many people, cars, and tall buildings. When I think of the people I will see I think of a diverse background of people that all live together in a common setting. This diversity of people, to me, it what would set apart an urban setting from a rural setting. The people in urban settings I expect will have a different social norms. Such as, in the rural settings it would be appropriate to end a conversation without saying goodbye. In the urban setting I expect that people will expect a salutation when the conversation is over. When I think about cars I think about nice sports cars, and also cars with high fuel efficiency. Lastly, When I think about the buildings in an urban environment, tall buildings are the first thing that comes to my mind. I presume that the buildings will probably be old, and have some history behind them. I expect to see a lot of street artists and people playing music. Which is what I am most excited about!
- What do you think New Orleans is like?I think New Orleans will be full of life. I think there will be musicians and artists on the street. I also think that it will have a more diverse food selection, because of being such a culturally diverse city. I expect the food to taste incredible. I think New Orleans will have people that are sometimes difficult to understand, due to heavy accents. I am looking forward to seeing the French quarter I have heard it is very beautiful, and has lots of rich history. I think the city itself will have a much more relaxed feel than it is in peoria. With art and music comes peace and understanding so I expect this city will have more love than what you experience sometimes in peoria.
- Why do you have those assumptions? (Inner Journey)
- Analyze yourself. Why did you give the descriptions you did in the earlier post?I feel I gave the description of the people being kind, because when I think of good music, which I have heard a lot about New Orleans music, I think about good times and everyone being kind. Musicians have been in my family for 5 generations, and I have seen the effect that good music can have on a persons well-being. It can be freeing. This is why I expect this city will be much more laid back. I think I have this stigma about the cars in a big city being fancy, because when I think of big cities I think of business men that make a lot of money. I have spent most of my life in a rural setting, and a big city to me is much more fast paced and higher stress. I do think that New Orleans will be an exception because of there wide array of art and diverse culture. I have read books about New Orleans and I even went there with my family when I was younger. However, I was only 12 and the memories seem vag now. I think I am basing my discriptions on what I have heard in class, what I have researched online, and from the other big city, such as Chicago, that I have been too. I assume that the people will be more friendly because of the music and art, but I also know that anywhere you go people will be assholes, and no amount of music or medicine can fix that. I also made an assumption that rich business men live in the city, but I'm sure there is a lot of poverty as well. This means there probably will be a lot of run down places, and people living on the street. Although I picture New Orleans as a city full of life, I am sure there are many troubles can come with the city as well.
